Remember when Golf was considered a sport for the elderly and the privileged in the society? Well, times have dramatically changed and the game is fast resonating with both children, young adults and even the elderly. It is now seen as a form of relaxation and exercise and what better way to relax than in a serene and quiet environment, a common feature with most golf courses.
Nigeria currently has Golf Courses in Lagos, Abuja, Rivers, Delta, Ondo, Kaduna State, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Kwara state, with States like Lagos featuring more than 1.
Having photographed tournaments and kitties in some these beautiful courses, our focus will be on 3, in no particular order.
- Smokin Hills Golf Resort, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State
This 18-hole layout Course is located in Akure and was developed by Chief Michael Ojo, the founder of Elizade Toyota Motors.
Like most courses, it is hard to predict the enormity of this range while driving through the small village leading to the resort.
2. Lakowe Lakes Golf Club, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State
This absolutely stunning Golf Course is located in Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate located on the lekki-epe axis, an exclusive 308-hectare residential golf estate owned and developed by Mixta Africa. It also has the typical 18 holes layout with many side attractions including lots of ponds.
3. Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos State
The Ikoyi Club 1938 club is more than just the golf course, it’s forms part of one of the many tourist attractions in Lagos. It is also one of the oldest golf courses in Nigeria as it was established as a European club in 1938. Like most typical Courses, it also has an 18-hole layout.
